a half hour early! Big deal. Just fyi they are open Thursday and get a bonus for working on the holidays. Dont forget they have off every friday plus pesach and other jewish holidays.

What I was told is that when you call the taxi company after you signed up with these people you ask them how long will it take them to come they will tell you it can take 5 minutes and it can take 30.
Also you should ask you LOR because you should probably just get in the car and drive there

No need for the shabbos taxi thing.  Just call a regular taxi.

 It is advisable NOT to drive , if you have the time ..   Call any taxi in the phone book, you can call on friday to check availibility, remember to have cash on hand, .  hatzlocha

Someone I know called Hatzolah on Shabbos for Pikuach Nefesh - he expressed to the Hatzolah member (who drove there) that he felt bad having to use the phone on Shabbos - the Hatzolah guy told him - don't feel bad. For you in that situation it was like Wednesday....

Of course I know that I should drive if there is no other option. I am trying to avoid driving by finding the most reliable taxi service.

There was a guy who had a gemach to lend phones that don't have lights and beeping for when your wife is in her ninth month so on the 1/7 chance you need to call on shabbos there are less melachos done.
I've asked several Rabbi's if that and Shabbos Taxi arrangement to avoid paying money are needed on the 1/7 chance. They all said that it's completely unnecessary. When in the situation you should minimize melacha as possible but you don't need to set up elaborate schemes and pay a membership to Shabbos taxi. You can have an envelope ready to go and the driver can take it from your house if you want to prepare...

That said, one should have a look at hilchos shabbos as to what you are allowed to take along etc... especially on Yom Tov (where you may need to prepare for 2-3 days at the hospital). Best is to have everything in one bag and ask the taxi driver to put it in the car.
