any idea what the starting pay is? ;D
This seems to be the complete LPD payroll.
http://m.bergendispatch.com/Public/PFRS2013/Agency.aspx?id=LAKEWOOD+TOWNSHIP+++++++++++++

Skimming it quickly the smallest salary I see is 47K.
Being as they keep adding new officers how much lower can the starting pay be?
Go for it!

Not very high, iirc during training mid 20's or low 30's, and upper 30's / low 40's once you finish training. But that is not counting any overtime and government benefits.
so thats why no one frum in lakewood is a cop, and its on the books :o :o :o

WOW so thats why taxes are so high! The median salary seems to be about 110k. compare that to the NYPD where the median salary is 74k http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Employer=New_York_Police_Department_%28NYPD%29/Salary
thats ridiculous considering the main job of a Lakewood cop seems to be pulling over harried kollel wives for talking on the phone, while nypd cops are doing tough police work.

Those LPD salaries are insane! How is a Lakewood cop worth 170k?! Why can't they be replaced by a 55k salary?

The truth is cops don't like Lakewood because of the low pension
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I'm looking for a handyman that does good work and would be available for a few small jobs in my house.  Work would need to be done in the  week or so.

Any recommendations?

HA!! you wish that was their main job. First of all, I don't understand why you think that is an issue, as it is dangerous and illegal. Second if that's all they did there would be a ton more tickets being issued as well for not stopping at stop signs and missing headlights brake lights etc
Third - if you actually knew the amount of crime that goes on in Lakewood you would obviously be shocked, there are many "national" gang members in Lakewood as well as drug crime and violence.
Fourth - those are not base salaries, a large chunk of it is from road jobs, and after work security (like shoprite had an officer there every night), which gets paid by the construction company / store but it goes through the department so it's part of their final income.

Those LPD salaries are insane! How is a Lakewood cop worth 170k?! Why can't they be replaced by a 55k salary?

When you do that you see what happens in NYPD, there are many corrupt officers as you need more money to live on.

On a side note, how often do you hear about NYPD officers doing what Lakewood cops do for the Jewish community, from helping people that are stuck on the Parkway Friday night (because you didn't think to leave enough time to get to Lakewood before Shabbos started), to buying families formula or diapers Friday night because you ran out, to turning a light on / off for you?
Lakewood cops as a general rule are very lenient with the Jewish community in regards to motor vehicle violations.

What's considered a "road job" ?
Whenever the utility companies do road work (e.g. Gas company,  water company),  they are required to have cops there.
The utility company pays the cops for their hours.

What's considered a "road job" ?

When they do any sort of construction on a road in the state of NJ you need to have police officers on scene closing the road / lane(s). The cops that these jobs are off duty and get paid by the construction company.
i.e. If there is a car accident and a pole gets knocked out, once the initial scene is cleaned up they will have an off duty officer come in and take over the intersection that is needed to be closed until the pole is replaced, this way the cop that is on duty is able to be available for other calls.

+1 if people actually got tickets for burned out headlights and expired registration...

Why are cops required for any road work ? Is it just about getting people to slow down ?
(If they're off duty why are they using the city's cars ? That's a lot of fuel)

People drive much more carefully around the construction

The companies are charged by the police force and most of the money goes to the cop (not all some is left to pay for the gas and car wear and tear)
