If word went around this barber had AIDS there would be no takers. Why are people being meikal on pikuach nefesh??

I dug out an old machine and gave my kids cuts as best I could. I will go till Lag Ba’omer. If it saves one life it’s worth living with a couple inches extra hair until then.
+1
just remember aveilim [for parents] go 12 months with out reg haircuts, ITS NOT WORTH THE RISK!!!

Really? Why wouldn’t you take a haircut from someone with Aids?

By blood products (unclean needles or unscreened blood).

By mother to baby by pregnancy, labor, or nursing.

By having unprotected xxxxxxx, xxxx, or xxx xxx.

Some ppl are just ill informed.

A barber on a house call with a mask and new gloves disinfecting his gear, taking haircut receiver taking a shower  after and displaying no symptoms shall be no issue IMHO.

Ask ur local health professionals.

Always praying for delayed baggage.

I agree that I personally wouldn’t do this. I’m not a medical professional, and don’t know if this poses a risk. I would say, that I don’t really see why you can’t get a haircut from your wife daughter, son etc... if at all possible. For most people who have been careful about social distancing, personally I wouldn’t take the risk. Especially as this barber has been traveling house to house, and has a greater chance of picking up the virus, then your avg person. Remember even if the haircut gets botched, no one will be seeing it for a while!

I spoke with a medical professional who is on the front lines.

1 - It is unclear if people who have had COVID-19 can no longer get it. There are indications that they could.
2 - There appears to be two distinct strains of COVID-19 going around and people can certainly get both.
3 - It is still unknown how long after someone gets better are they no longer contagious.
4 - There are many studies coming out that the virus can travel much greater distances than 6 feet.

I've seen these points all over. I've yet to see anything but vague references to someone in China who got it twice, or people saying we dont know if there are not 2 strains, or how long it takes to become no longer contagious.
But I have heard that if we base it on other similar virus we should not be worried about 2 stains or getting it again for a good few months, and 72 hours should be good for most people.
I'm not who you think I am.

Message from Lakewood Hatzola and Bikur Cholim

It is critically important that if you or a family member experiences shortness of breath or worsening of the coronavirus illness, that you do not hesitate to call Hatzola or go to the hospital immediately.
The past 2 shabbosim, there have been numerous cases of people waiting too long, until Motzei Shabbos, to Call Hatzola or go to the hospital, resulting in serious consequences.
This is sakana nefashos mamash.
If there is any question of shortness of breath or worsening of disease on Shabbos, do not hesitate to call Hatzola or go to the hospital. Treat Shabbos as any other day of the week!
Have a healthy and safe Shabbos

I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m in Nigeria.
Also, as I’m sure you are aware, this has nothing to do with the barber having aids. This article is about aids being transmitted via the tools the barber is using. That’s a totally different conversation.

Why do you think at the very least the same concern exists here? It’s the barber passing the virus from one client to the next as he and his tools are in close proximity to the patient and his droplets for an extended time.

I hate to say this but the senior medical professionals I've spoken to say attitudes like yours are literally killing people.
1 - There is quite a lot of evidence that a person remains contagious longer than 72 hours.
2 - Even if not, many people may consider themselves better even though they still have minor lingering symptoms.
3 - People can be silent carriers.
There is a reason every single medical professional is urging everyone to just stay home unless absolutely necessary - whether they feel sick or not.

I don’t get it. So many I’ve spoke to  on shabbos were surprised that I’m staying home for YT. People are like “ask you own shaila as rabbanim are saying dif things”. Here I was thinking that everyone is on the same page and all rabbanim are urging everyone to stay home period.

People should definitely be asking their own Shaalos. One Rov told me the letter was worded very strongly to discourage people from acting on their own, but people may very well get answers tailored to their situation.
