Many NJ restaurants do not have wine since it would require a liquor license. NY has different laws.

That's why some stores file for a bar license.

The following is my review of Estreia Restaurant.

I made a reservation for 8:30 for two. Upon arrival we were seated promptly. The waitress came and brought us some paper menus. I must say that the choices were few. I ordered an Asian steak and my guest ordered a regular steak on the bone. Issue number one, no bread to wash on while waiting for our food. For entrée’s, I ordered some spring rolls. They were quite good. I asked our waitress if we can see a wine list. The waitress informed us that there was no wine in the entire restaurant. I was shocked, as was my guest. I was not expecting this at all, and would have thought twice about coming here had I known in advanced. Another big issue was the time it took to get our food. More than 45 minutes elapsed before our food showed up. Although we had business to discuss, I would have preferred the food to come out earlier. Here’s where another issue arose. The Asian steak was smothered in mayonnaise. I am not sure if this is how it is in other restaurants but nowhere on the menu did it mention globs of mayo on the steak. I was extremely disappointed, as I am not a mayo fan. I somehow managed to eat half of it before calling quits. My guest’s steak did not appear to be anything special. Also, the main dish did not come with side dished! I had to order and pay for fries and onion rings separately! I give the main dish a ‘C’ rating at best.
Finally I asked to see a dessert menu. I ordered a chocolate molten cake with ice cream (for $15 bucks- outrageous). Had it been good, I would not be complaining about the price. It tasted like it had been in the freezer since last pesach. This dessert ALSO took 45 minutes to arrive- totally unacceptable.

In total, my bill came out to $160. For an upscale restaurant this may be normal, but the food and service was terrible. I would not return to this restaurant for a while, and would not recommend it. They need some serious work to really get this place in shape.

to be quite honest, i highly doubt there was mayonnaise on your steak

+1, sounds funny to me too. That review reminded me of TA when people post pictures of tinny cracks in painting that are behind furniture.

Sorry to hear your bad experience, and sad to hear that there are still no great upscale restaurants in Lakewood.  :'(

I specifically asked the waiter what the huge globs of white sauce was on my steak as I am allergic to mustard. The waiter came back and said the chef told him it was mayo. Next time your there on a wed, order the asian steak.

Updated wiki with more restaurants. Add any that I missed.

Sounds nasty, even if I wasn't a mayo hater.

help! favor to ask my lakewood brethren. i followed all the instructions on the obihai thread, and had it running great. i unplugged it to move it to another room, for my convenience, and now the red light is all i get! i have no phone service! (of course i tried the reset button with a paper clip already.) i emailed them, and they want me to plug it in with another power supply to rule out that issue. does anyone have an obi so i can plug mine in for a minute and see if the light changes to green? (mine is an obi202, but i think they all use the same 12v psu). send me an email or pm, please, and tizku lmitzvos

alright let me tell you what it was.

it was a Bearnaise sauce, a classic and very traditional sauce for steak. which leads me to take your entire review with a huge grain of salt.

im looking forward to trying the restaurant next time im on 08701

It's not too much of a stretch to imagine a restaurant subbing a dressed up mayo for a bernaise.  Especially in a so-called "fancy" kosher restaurant in Lakewood, where 99% of people dont even know a bernaise from a hollandaise and 98% of folks smother their steak in ketchup or spicy mayo.

I find this interesting... After reading this whole conversation about Estria I went on facebook and the first thing I see is a post from a friend of mine:

" ESTREIA restaurant freaken SUCKS!!!!! And really poor customer service. It's really a shame cuz I was so excited about this place!‪#‎shouldalistentomyfriends‬ "

I dont see anywhere that it says that on the asian steak. the Bearnaise sauce is for the signature steak..... not for the daily specials which is below it.

bottom line is that I had a bad experience. I only hope they can fix all these issues soon.

It's possible, and quite probable, that many people in lakewood don't 'get' fine dining. i find they usually like their meat sweet.

its extremely unlikely they subbed mayonnaise for bearnaise, especially so early in the game.
