Air Conditioner + Extension Cord
« on: May 23, 2012, 10:15:17 AM »
I know nothing about these type of things and need advice. Need to use an extension cord for an indoor air conditioner. It is 115V plug. Is there a specific type that I need? Heavy duty?

12 guage 3 wire, used for 20 amp appliances such as air conditioners or refrigerators. A 14/3 would also work but you can't go wrong with a 12/3.

What size unit are we talking about? Also the extension cord should be as short as possible. Don't buy a 12ft if all you need is 3ft.

That cord is rated at 15A. Depending on the current draw (amps) of your AC it might not be enough. Do you have the manual that will state the current draw or the model number and we can look it up.
