A few more questions
From your experience, what are the chances of getting 6 award seats on the same flight?
Using aa, can I get a free stop over in the us for a few days and a free stop in Europe each way? If not, do you have any suggestions on how to maximize it- like that mileage based award on one world (which I know nothing about, but have seen it discussed)

So, there's no way to fly with a free stopover in Europe?
90k to Israel with no stopover in Europe?
For 100k, I can use a oneworld mileage award to get to Israel and get a bunch of stopovers!

You can stopover once in Europe as US-Europe is 40K off peak or 50K peak and Europe-TLV is 40K.

The OneWorld distance award requires 2 OW partners besides AA and does not allow travel on El Al.

So during peak season, I can fly lax-nyc-lhr as my Europe ticket,.and then lhr-fco-tlv as my middle east ticket? all for 90k?

You can stop in NYC and LHR, but FCO would not be a valid stop.
Also for the return don't forget to book your free trip to Hawaii!

No.  Also note that stopping in LHR for greater than 24 hours is going to cost you a couple hundred dollars per ticket.

I was always under the impression that they tax either way. Are there taxes for a short stop just less or only after 24 hrs?

The heavy APD tax is only triggered with a 24+ hour stay.
