Schwab Visa-beginning of the end?
« Reply #40 on: September 04, 2011, 01:48:51 AM »
received a letter in the mail saying that the (2% cashback) card originally known as schwab then FIA will now become a BofA card. does that mean the benefits (cashback, no foreign transaction fee) will soon be cut? or will they 'grandfather' it and allow it to stay?

I wonder how long it will be before the 2% is killed?
6 months over/under.
2% is gone as of 11/01/11!
A year longer than I thought it would last at least...

that sucks.   but the truth is with today's wide range of no forex fee cards, including 1.25 ba miles a dollar, 1.07 ur points a dollar, or 2 cap one venture points a dollar... the schwabb card really isn't as crucial as it used to be.

True, but it was a good fee-free card for overseas use.

With Sapphire Preferred though there's no real need for Schwab.

I got a letter from bofa last night confirming this.  That was probably the best general cashback card of all time.  Lets all shed a tear for its demise.

What will the rewards be now?

EDIT: Disregard. Found it on the net. Wow this stinks.

I opened a Schwab Bank acct. yesterday, and I can't get my debit card untill acct. (which will give me free intl atm withdrawals) has some money.

Can someone here with a Schwab Acct put one dollar into my acct?  After talking to some rep's, this seems to be the quickest way to get my debit card (I'm traveling).  As soon as the acct gets any funding they automatically send out the debit card.
If I were to do that first funding from my personal Checking acct, it would take at least "5 biz days".

I just wanna get my debit card ASAP.

Any nice guys here?

I already reserved a seat at the DD seminar, so I can arrange to meet you there (or wherever for that matter), or anywhere in NYC to repay you the $1 :D

Only $1!

A comment on DDMS (Re. SoFi) mentioned that although Schwab doesn't disclose it, there really is a 1% foreign "exchange fee" charged by Visa on foreign ATM withdrawals that Schwab doesn't rebate.

Anyone have any evidence of this?

I've withdrawn money overseas probably dozens of times using my Schwab debit card and never ever noticed any such fees.

Just found THIS BLOGGER who tested and for the most part confirmed NO 1% fee.

Just a DP regarding Schwab.
If you transfer money into Schwab using the Schwab Transfer tab- (sometimes) they make you wait 4 days till you can take the money out.
If you transfer money to Schwab using an outside transfer source like the bank your transfering from the money is available right away.

not limited to schwab. many banks will clear an incoming 'pushed' deposit immediately vs. waiting for a deposit they 'pulled' to clear

Anyone successfully deposited Amex miles into Schwab recently? Been trying to transfer the last couple days and it isn't working for me.
