Correct. Did anyone think he said salmon is not ok? Maybe that's why I'm not understanding the comments.

For clarity, I am fairly certain that Rav Moshe does not discuss the flesh color.

Can one purchase salmon without skin?
OU policy is to allow raw salmon to be purchased from non-certified sources. This is because there are no non-kosher fish which look like salmon, and it isn’t possible to color a non-kosher fish to look like raw salmon. (This was the psak of Rav Belsky, zt”l, in the name of Rav Moshe, zt”l. For further elaboration see the following OU article published in Hamodia, July 2006). Although smoked salmon is technically raw, it does require kosher certification because of the possibility that non-kosher fish were smoked with the salmon in the same smoking oven.

CRC Chicago says Salmon is ok as well. Star-k is machmir.

What I think @moko and @aygart are saying is that while there are definitely more poskim who are matir salmon than tuna, it is not clear that there is a majority of poskim overall that are matir salmon.

Because canned salmon is cooked and can be colored in that process.

I'm fairly certain this is based on a בית יוסף,  I heard it from my Rebbe zt"l בשם הגרמ"פ and was quoted above from rabbi belsky from reb moshe. I also heard it from the top OK  guy in the west coast, Rabbi klein, very recently, that although some fish are similar, nothing like quite like salmon that is widely available commercially.

this was heard from a mashgiach in a tuna factory, who surreptitiously took a non tuna fish and put it on the tuna belt post sort. The factory shut down for 4 hours to try to find the culprit and he literally feared for his life if he'd been caught.

There's a separate bishul yisroel issue, that rav soloveitchik has a chiddush in. Due to the simanim issue it would only apply to salmon not tuna (not according to the OU). But I'd be interested in seeing that he spoke about salmon specifically.

Would you drink OU-D if avoiding it would = malnourishment for whatever reason? IINM People generally makpid on CY wouldn't serve CS to their infants unless they have challenges sourcing CY
