The question is oleh al shulchan melochim (lilafes Bo es hapas) especially because it’s a tafel.
I once looked into French fried onions and the OUs policy is that a tafel is not a problem. The example used was water chestnuts ( iirc R Belsky Ztzl’s Tshuva)
It should be noted that many achronim are quite clear that foods eaten al shulchan melachim as a taful are problematic. Notably, there is a big shmuz in the achronim about sugar with all sorts of reasons being proffered as to why it shouldn’t be an issue, the fact that it’s a taful none withstanding.
It’s unfortunate that the OU ignores this, and consumers reading their articles and policies have no inkling that many achronim are machmir on this.
