I believe that is made with kosher animal rennet.

The person who asked me confirmed with the OU that it's a label mistake on the ingredient panel

it's a mistake. AFAIK to be only kosher cheese under a mainstream hashgacha is the Parmigiano Reggiano from Italy certified by OK

This is total sheker, the original press release was very clear,  and I posted it above. TLS misrepresented it originally, and is blaming it on the OU

The OU is of the opinion that those who have such a designation are negligent. They are way of the cleaning process used to make DE. They also go with the psak of R Moshe that for those who are machmir on cholov yisroel them DE would be a N"T bar N"T dissura. This is also in a tshuva from R Elyashiv to them in the madrich hakashrus and is the opinion of R Schachter

Why? It's says "D".

Because it leads to confusion like this, where people rely on ingredient lists, or allergy information, or calling the OU and getting bad information, or not being updated when things change.

If the OU would view their role as including actually helping people keep halacha, instead of as just "patturing" the OU, they would get it.

This leads them to avoid thing like DE which will be helpful to those who understand but can be confusing to the ignorant. They feel that those who understand the difference can find out anyhow. Besides for this pringals case which is an exception, if you ask the OU about any OTHER  product that says OU-D but has NO milk ingredients they will tell you it still dairy.

That's possible. I havent kept on top of that since i also go with this psak of R Moshe.
