we had someone bring us back materna from israel. didn't even think we had to specify chalav yisroel. apparently he gives the hechsher on the chalav stam version.
if he's reliable we'll donate to a jewish gemach. if he isn't then we won't

There are a number of issues to deal with when it comes to buying a cup of coffee in a shop or other non-kosher establishment. The first issue to address is the coffee itself. Plain black coffee can typically be ordered without too much of a problem. The one proviso is to make sure to get it in a paper cup.

Based on these facts and assumptions, the psak (halachic decision) should be that one is permitted to buy hot coffee only from vendors that he knows do not sell treif, or whose cleaning procedures do not impact the kashrus of the coffee. This is, indeed, STAR-K’s opinion on purchasing coffee from stores that sell treif items.

Starbucks in Target for example, shares a dishwasher with Pizza Hut. they are probably the first coffee shop in history to systematically wash the brew basket with meat treif keilim. In fact, most coffee shops never wash the brew basket at home, other than a quick rinse. Definitely in those diners of old mentioned.
I drink a lot of coffee, and appreciate good coffee. there's no reason any frum yid shouldn't stick to the americanos and latte's a that are muttar, and not get involved with bedieveds. And its pashut to me that 7-11 or even possibly mcdonalds is a safer bet.
As far as Maaris Ayin, Rabbi Heineman is not the only major posek to feel that way. However, as with all maaris ayin, once everyone does it its not maaris ayin anymore (I acknowledge the oversimplification). But at a rest stop there would be substantial reason to be meikel as well, which is the Star-K's premise in 2019. In 2023 when every starbucks, including the kiosks, has hot treif meat, it's a whole different shaila.
Again, watch the videos and make your own judgment, but don't shoot from the hip, and heteirim from a year ago are no longer relevant

In your house do you use the same dishwasher for milchig and fleishig at the same time? And if you treif up a knife after 24 hours do you use it without kashering?

Very interesting. I don’t remember Rabbi Fishbane mentioning that they are starting to individually brew on demand. This eliminates any heter of סתם כלים as we run into an issue of בשל לי

This has always been an issue with decaf as often they don’t maintain brewed decaf in my experience.

Listen, I don't want to argue with you or anyone. I'm a fan of an educated consumer. Read the article from rabbi auerbach, watch the crc videos. Give it the 45 minutes it takes. And then do what you want. I don't care. But recognize that if any hechsher would allow the standards you are considering lechatchila you would be the first to throw figurative stones.

Hechsherim traditionally do not give hechsherim to things which aren’t 100% removed from issur, even if in din it’s מותר לכתחילה. This has nothing to do with the consumers ability to lechatchila consume something that, for example, contains issur which is battul bshishim.
