Where is the source in Chazal?

There are a host of מר״מ saying to the contrary, and calling it similar to מינות.

See for example ערוך השלחן סימן קטז
בדבר שכל הפוסקים מתירים חלילה להחמיר על עצמו וזה נוטה למינות.

במין באינו מינו שנבטל בששים אין להחמיר… שאסור להחמיר בזה

This was in regards to bitul. It is permitted to be machmir on a sfak sfeika. There is a chida somewhere about it.

Looked at these. Bottom line he's not pro saying that it's mutar based on bittul and pgam. I don't think you can be mechalek between a hashgocha and a rav making a public statement.

Presumably it can be included in the Noda Biyehuda about coffee houses. You mentioned that they don't always use the same basket every day but that may not be a safe hashakul to include with the shema pogem b'ein.
I am speculating since I didn't research this.

Regarding COR, yes I would disagree. The crc policy on sherry casks, as I recall hearing from rabbi Akiva Niehaus years ago, would be more like I'm saying, events and official policy ate more stringent than what he would tell you in practice.

I'm sure that if you (and others) asked your local Hashgacha to replicate this, they would consider if this is what the people want. They just need to made aware!

@moko  what are your thoughts, is this practical?

Im not familiar at all with vaad hakashurs if LV, but im curious of their other food establishments have a similar list of standards or only that this one specifically requested it.


For any restaurant with a proper hashgocha, each mashgiach should be able to provide that type of info. Sometimes, when asked, they just look with a blank stare.

There are 2 components of Hashgacha, a) the standards they dictate, b) how well they are implemented. (שופטים ושוטרים)

Having a certificate stating their standards is only half of the story- you need to ascertain how well the mashgichim are on top of implementing these standards. The latter is the strong point of some of the larger national hashgachos; the former of some of the more boutique smaller ones.

Don't know anything about LV Kosher, but the certificate in itself is only as good as the personel implementing the rules

I know nothing about LVK either, but there's that Gemara where the donkey seller assures the buyer that he can take it up to mountains and down hills for test driving.

One other point about this specific eatery- They have a treif store right next door (CMIIW I believe it is also called chinglish). The mashgiach has to be super on top of his game to ensure that there are no mix-ups between the two stores, בשוגג או במזיד.
