I’m not familiar enough with the industry to know how much of a concern for treif oil there is.
I’m told that oils are sometimes refined in facilities also used for treif. Apparently it’s not common in the US but does occur more often in other countries. So while a specific bottle of canola/vegetable/olive oil without a hechsher is unlikely to be treif, there is a realistic possibility that an unsupervised machine  had thoroughly treifa oil used at some point (got a bargain on some overstock oil made in Europe etc).

Assuming we would need to be choshesh for this (why wouldn’t we, unless rov tells us not to? Not sure how this works) there would be a real issue with buying popcorn from concession stands unless you can verify exclusively kosher use until the last 24 hours (or Linas Layla) of disuse.

I recall hearing from the Magrover that palm oil comes from Indonesia in tanker ships that may be used for animal fat too. He went into the details of when there is chashash and when not which I don't remember.

I am sure @imayid2 is familiar with the tumult about Palm Oil.

Ami this week with Rabbi Fishbane on Starbucks coffee.
If you ever bought there, I'd encourage you to read.
Pic, please?

I didn't read the whole article but as someone who drinks at Starbucks often it really bothers me when I see people drinking the drinks with grape juice in them. I have no issue if you're going to drink something without a hechsher, but make sure its kosher first.

How do they react when you tell them that it's not kosher?

To me the scariest part of all this is the Refresher thing. According to the article there are many people drinking them and they are 100% treif.

IMHO part of the problem comes from relying on products and establishments that don't have a hashgocha because "what could be wrong with the oil in the popcorn" "what could be wrong with a drink in starbucks?" "I heard it's really kosher but doesn't have a good hashocha because....." etc etc....

The problem is people not verifying that what they eat is kosher either because it has a hechsher or because someone confirmed that it's kosher.

I would go into starbucks and get a coffee without hesitation, but I wouldn't get a flavored coffee at a DD without a hechsher unless I can verify the syrup even though the other location 2 miles away with a hechsher likely has the same syrup.

I'm not very fond of the stance they take, and the fact that many rabbanim allow what they are machmir on makes people less trusting and less open to listening to them. If someone told me AKO says my drink is no good, I would likely have a similar response to the guy in the story. Not due to ignorance but because the psak I got was that it's kosher l'chatchilah.

Refreshers are a serious problem, you don't even have bittul b'shesh, it's mostly grape juice.

I'm sorry, there's no scenario where "mind your own business" is an appropriate response. Even if the guy just got off the phone with his rav who told him the drink is 100% muttar.

Mevushal from birth
Rabbi Abadi allows it because he verified that the employees don't come in contact with it before it's pasteurized. I can't explain his sons reasoning
