Dan's TR on DD

Mochjas TR

DDF DO Planning Thread

Seven Mile Market - supposedly the largest kosher supermarket in the country.

Market Maven (formerly Seasons) - great prices for meat and chicken, also good place for shabbos food

Hotels:
Only 1 Close and decent hotel to Jewish area (but not quite walking distance) is this Hilton Doubletree

Airbnb in the frum community:
Eruv Inn
Edelweiss - Located about 15 minutes from the frum community, practically next door to Ateres Elka wedding hall

Otherwise, there are a number of nice hotels downtown (which is also the inner harbor area) and near BWI airport. There are no shuls in the downtown area with regular minyanim, aside from Mincha minyanim in various offices.

Restaurants in the Jewish area (in no particular order):

Dairy

Dunkin Donuts - 2 kosher locations
Here and Here

Croustille Cafe French Bakery - French bakery with many delicious dairy and pareve bakery items.

Milk & Honey Bistro - dairy homestyle cooking

Goldberg's Bagels - very good bagels and free wifi.

Mama Leah's - pizza that is a bit different, but IMHO (Lunatic), the best pizza in Baltimore

Tov Pizza - classic pizza shop - Mocha thinks this is a hell of a lot better than ^

Caramel's - pizza shop, also has sushi

Cocoaccinos/Pie 18 - cafe with sandwiches and salads, as well as custom made brick oven pizza

Playa Bowls Quarry Lake - "the original Acai bowl" - lots of great pareve options as well, delicious bowls

Pareve

Sushi Sakura
Cinnaholic Owings Mills - This location only was recently certified kosher pareve (across from the area Costco).

Meat

David Chu's - Reasonably priced great Chinese food and good sushi. Dan's rating - 7.25/10
Address: 7105 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, MD 21215
Phone:(410) 602-5008
Not to be missed:

Knish Shop - Excellent subs and good sushi - Good place to pickup food for shabbos
Address: 508 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208
Phone:(410) 484-5850

The Club Deli & Grill - Newly opened (2023) fleishig meat/sandwich restaurant

Taam Tai - Reasonably prices Asian food. Great Lo Mein. Located between Mama Leah's and Goldberg's Bagels

Kosher Bite - fast food (American, Israeli, and Chinese)
Not to be missed:
  • Double Burger (better than KD's a"h)

Serengeti - Traditional excellent steakhouse (review Here, Here and Here) - definitely the nicest place in Baltimore.
Address: 2839 Smith Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21209
Phone:(410) 413-6080
Not to be missed:
  • Lamb Burger on Ciabatta Bun
  • Short rib eggrolls

was curious about a closer hotel location. Found a Howard Johnson (never walked into one) that's an 18 minute walk to suburban Orthodox:
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Howard+Johnson+Pikesville,+407+Reisterstown+Rd,+Pikesville,+MD+21208,+United+States/Suburban+Orthodox+Congregation,+Seven+Mile+Lane,+Pikesville,+MD/@39.3688922,-76.7158063,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c81a13de053b61:0x57df86ef15588109!2m2!1d-76.7158154!2d39.3677362!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c81a73b611e69d:0x97429ba9f6d0adbc!2m2!1d-76.7061015!2d39.3729708!3e2
When your hotel has bullt proof glass and charges by the hour - you just may not wanna stay there! I don't think I've ever stepped foot in there but it gives off that type of vibe

One of mine is leased. I was able to get it from the dealer much cheaper than any of the brokers.

Slightly higher because we pay taxes based on the vehicle price rather than the lease payment.  For example, a $20,000 car for 36 months with a $10,000 residual will be ~$293/month (with 6% taxes) without taking into account the money factor.

Here, the sale price becomes ~$20,000 + 6% = $21,800 = $327/month without taking into account the money factor.

The only benefit we have is if in 3 years the car is worth 10k and you're leasing a new car, you can trade in the lease and pay taxes on $10,000 less dollars from the new lease.

Not sure how clear that is.

i understand. so basically if I'm not looking for a buyout option it would be cheaper to get a ny lease...CMIIW

Definitely.  But you'll need to register it to a NY address, pay NY insurance, etc.  Price that out before making a decision.  But just from the cost of the lease NY will be cheaper.

And presumably,  once you register in MD, it's all the same
