Amtrak
« on: June 04, 2012, 11:57:22 AM »
What are your experiences?   Every time I take the train, there is always an issue.  Just yesterday my 3-year old and I were crossing to the diner car and the train door was wide open- my guess is we were going around 70 mph at  the time.  I videoed it on my phone:

http://youtu.be/oqNGRZrho54

The phone stopped videoing after a minute and a half, but it took at least another 90 seconds until a conductor came to close the door.

I've had that numerous times when train traveling. I enjoy it. :)

I wouldn't have minded it (as much) if my 3 year old hadn't been with me...

+1 me too, but only on the Accela trains, they're very nice, but the old one sucks away.... And they don't have wifi.

Did you pay have to buy a ticket for your kid?

Child Age Updated March 24, 2014
The defined age of a child has been changed from 2 - 15 years of age to 2 - 12 years of age.

Children Ages 2-12 Save 50%
Up to two children ages 2-12 are eligible to receive a 50% discount on the lowest available adult rail fare on most Amtrak trains with each fare-paying adult (age 18+). If any additional child per adult will be traveling, reservations must be made for that child as an "Adult" and the full adult fare will be charge

If you are buying a ticket within a few days of travelling it can get very expensive, especially in the northeast. It can make sense to transfer 4K UR ($18.80 if you buy GC at staples) for a ticket that can cost as much as $120

Was looking for someone with status who could then transfer points to Choice.

I am seeking to go from Miami to New York on December 22nd aboard the Amtrak using points. I am taking the train because the child that I am accompanying has a severe medical condition and cannot fly or be driven for long durations. When I called to make the booking I was informed that the December 22nd has been Blacked Out. The only way they would lift the blackout is for someone with status.

I am looking for someone that be willing to let me transfer my Chase points into their Amtrak account to make the booking. Can anyone help?
TIA!

Just curious why you didn't go tell the conductor yourself to close the door. From the video it's sounds like you're being very sarcastic and blaming the others for not getting the door closed. They obviously weren't very concerned, but you were.

I figured as much. However I am taking my chances.
Would there be a different appropriate thread to move this post to so it can have more visibility?
