Is it only for a few months? Many cards offer 5 points per dollar for first 6 months.
That may be an option to consider.

Chase Freedom has 5X on gas from July - Sep. That should probably cover your summer, and is probably the best you will get.

Chase Freedom has 5X on gas from Jun 15 - Sep 15. That should probably cover your summer, and is probably the best you will get.

I forgot about that. Yes, this is probably your best bet. And these points can later be transferred to a Chase Sapphire Preferred account or an INK bold account so you can use the points for airline and hotel programs.

Is there a cap? It sounds like the card will be used a lot.

Earn 15 cents per gallon rebates on gasoline purchases at over 10,000 Exxon and Mobil stations nationwide.
     •    Each year, earn up to 2% rebates on your first $10,000 spent on other eligible purchases, and 1% on other eligible purchases over $10,000.

I have this card because for a year I was driving 90 miles a day.  There is no limit on the rebates but you don't get the cash price if there is one.

Hilton Amex = 6 points for gas.

Of if you do get the Chase Freedom (Visa and Mastercard), you can stock up on gift cards at grocery stores by the end of this month ($1500 x 2), and then use the cards for gas the rest of the summer = $6,000 total.

6 Hilton points are worth less than 2 UR points that you get on the Ink cards.
Plus on my Ink card I've been getting 1% cash back on top of the UR points at some gas stations.

Still, can't touch Freedom though.

Not sure if this counts, but you can use your $1500 limit now by purchasing a gas card or gift card at a grocery store, and then you will get an additional $1500 for gas next quarter.

If you have the patience to get crafty, you can purchase gift cards with any ink card for 5x bonus, and then use those gift cards for gas.

So using the ink can be better bonuses than the 2 percent rebate from mobil?
