If i add myself to a title or vehicle registration in NJ as a co owner, would both names need to be insured for the vehicle?
Story behind this is as follows, will explain what i'm trying to accomplish by adding a co-owner.
I bought out a lease that a sibling had. Now being that its a hyundai there's a 10yr/100k miles(whichever comes first) powertrain(engine, trans, axle) warranty that's for the 1st owner.
So as soon as i switch ownership that warranty is downgraded to a 5yr/60k miles.
Now before i just void that warranty by transferring ownership outright was thinking if there's a way to preserve that.
Either by adding a co owner or by... if there's another idea that you guys have in mind that would work.
In NY it seems you would be able to keep the title in his name, and then register the car in your name, there's no reason to change the title, they let you keep it as is. while in NJ they need to the title to match the registration.
I tried changing the info online in his account to my name which would avoid this entire issue, but the only way i can transfer the name would be one of these ways seen below in the picture. Any of these doable? or know of someone that can help me with this?
