Was added and the premium didn't go up. Geico.
happened with one of my older sisters when she was added and also later on when it was just me and my parents ( I was a student at the time officially on the policy )we added my younger. she did not make the policy go up either when I was taking off insurance when I got married rates went up nicely could be a factor of how many people are on the insurance plan as a whole then again who knows it depends the way the winds blow on that day weather going to go through the roof or only a little bit

All depends on how they rate,
I've seen that stating that the kid is married wont pick the price up too much

If i rent a car and use my own personal insurance rather than a cc and my son is listed on my personal insurance will he be covered in a case of accident if he is NOT an authorized driver on the car rental since I am suing my own personal insurance?

No. Coverage from your personal policy will only extend to ppl who have permission to drive the car. Since your son has no permission form the rental company to drive the car then your personal insurance won't extend coverage to him. However, if something happened you can still try to submit the claim as I've seen insurance companies be lax about it. But I believe the official  rule is no

Are you sure Geico wrote back to me that he would be covered but that i should speak to rental company and son may have to sign some waivers?? not sure what they are referring to?

I mean does the auto insurance policy in general follow the person or car? If my son is covered under Geico he would be covered in any car?

Insurance covers the car. For example if you borrow your friends car your insurance will not cover it. A rental is unique in that it is "your" car so insurance extends to it. If someone isn't allowed to drive it they become and excluded driver. But if Geico said they'll cover then great

actually now Geico is sending conflicting emails so not sure now maybe a insurance expert can chime in

see their response below:

We want to do everything we can to help clarify how "Joey" would be covered in a rental vehicle by your policy. We're sorry for the previous miscommunication regarding your question.

GEICO would cover "Joey" from insurance perspective, but rental companies have other rules and insurance coverage doesn't override that.

You asked what would happen if he is not authorized on the rental, but covered on your policy. To answer your question, there would be no changes to the GEICO policy, and "Joey" is already listed as an active driver.

However, please understand that we cannot review the rental contract you have, and we cannot review possible changes to your rental contract if you allow an unauthorized driver to operate the rental. To further review this, you would need to contact the rental agency directly.

Sincerely,

Martha W.

Anyone know if it's worth it to plea down a 2 point speeding ticket to unsafe driving in NJ? Mainly concerned with insurance premiums going up. One blog mentioned that 1-5 miles above the limit does not incur insurance points. Is that true?

Just seeing this now. Definitely not worth pleading unsafe driving for a 2 point speeding ticket. Pleading "Unsafe driving" is kinda like a get out of jail free card, you can basically only use 1-2x in your life. Use it for a serious ticket.

Also worth pleading your case, going 1-5 mph above limit is not much, they might be willing to change it to non-moving violation. And regarding insurance, it's somewhat of a myth that points are all that matters to insurers, unsafe driving and other tickets affects insurance rates regardless of points.

Does a typical insurance policy cover me when I rent a car through Turo?
(I'm waiting for my insurance to get back to me but figured maybe someone already checked)
Turo pushes heavily to take one of their coverage packages, I just and to confirm before I decline it.

Don't risk 10s of thousands on "someone checking."

Ask your own insurance and preferably get it in writing.
