Most companies allow you to add a "Student" to your policy without an additional cost.
(For your child who is a student and does not live at home anymore)
In the best case scenario, it could bring down your policy cost.
IME with geico  i was added as a student at 18 didnt live at home and was not charged. it really came in handy when i got married that i had 5 years of insurance history and got very good rates for my age

GEICO didn't offer us that. They raised the rates by over $600.
I guess we'll try again.

GEICO told us that if the school is within 100 miles of home the rates go up.
Is this true or YMMV based on who takes the call?

I need my windshield replaced to pass state inspection. I can do it through insurance with a $50 deductible or pay out of pocket $300. My inclination is to use the insurance, but I know having a claim, even a no fault one, will be on my record and can affect future rates. Does anyone have experience with this?

Are you sure it will be on your record. Mine was a few years back with State Farm and had no effect on the rates.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Not 100% sure, but a previous glass claim showed on my record when I was shopping rates a few years ago.

I think a Roadside Assistance call with Liberty Mutual can show up (dunno about other carriers). However, IIRC it didn't have any effect on rates. Perhaps this is similar.

I have an old car which I insure and have registration and title for it but somebody else mostly uses the car.
what are reprecussions of such an arrangement

for tickets etcc its on the driver and accidents will obviously affect my insurance
anything else I am missing what if i take insurance off and still have it registered  and titled to me any potential issues for me?

If the car is insured at an address other than where it's primarily parked, it could be insurance fraud. Nothing will happen unless there is a large payout and insurance does an investigation. If they do, it can be a big issue.

If you remove insurance then you can get fined for a gap of coverage. Some states are more strict than others but NY is especially harsh and will fine you for every day the vehicle is registered without valid insurance.
If you are asking about someone else insuring the car while it's in your name, this varies by the state and insurer. Some will allow it, some won't.

Hi everyone. Is it worth it to take out an unlimited tort (ability to sue) auto plan, as it does bump up premiums significantly?

if you think the chances of a non Jewish millionaire getting into an accident with you, with him completely at-fault, are high, then yes.
