which card has best bonus?
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:42:54 PM »
My sapphire preferred has just reached its year, and I'd like to downgrade it and open a new card as my main one. I spend I'd say about 2k a month, and for me mileage is most important.  Any recommendations? (The bigger the opening bonus also helps ;-))

US MPE has the easiest and most attainable bonus.  55K+$50 after an easy SM match for spending just $1.

But you miss some double points on daily spendings, like 5 points on tel, or 2 points on travel and dining with the SP.
This guy is looking for a card to use for everyday spendings, which the MPE isn't the best. IMHO

I didn't say the UA MPE is the best card for spending, I said it has the best/easiest bonus right now.

Go to a 2bm/3bm to optimize spending.

Best Bonus is by far the United MPE. But its pretty lousy for spending.

Best spending us most likely the Freedom & Sapphire combo.

Actually if you can spend exactly 25K/calendar year it's quite good for general spending-1.4 miles per dollar.

Otherwise, a United Club or a Freedom/Sapphire/Ink combo can be very lucrative.

You will probably get two pulls. One is a personal card and one is a business card.

Ok so scratch that idea... Which 2 would work to do together? I want to do the mpe just for the bonus, and another for spending ... Maybe freedom? But if I downgrade the SP then I can't do much with it can I?

I'm not sure why this card is always ignored when these questions come up, but the MB platinum card is definitely in the top 5. 50k MR points, plus $200 airline credit, all for a very small 1k spend. And if you care about Global Entry, the free $100 is a nice touch.

That's because we want to support Dan, and he doesn't have a link to that card.

Very simple: it has a $475 annual fee. So for someone looking for a quick buck or flight its great, but as a standard spending card.....

Forgot to mention that you are supposed to cancel within 60 days. The OP asked what the best bonus is, not what the best spending card is. Since he is spending 2k per month, he can go for this + some Chase cards.

Whats the next step?
« Reply #19 on: June 14, 2012, 11:04:39 PM »
My old thread (where I asked for advice on which card to open) seems to have disappeared, but I just did a 3bm for sp mc, freedom, and United MileagePlus® Club Card. The united I got approved instantly, and the other two say pending. The sp mc I know its because I already have a visa... What should my next step be? Call them or wait for a response about freedom and sp? Thanks!
