Interesting thread to be revived.

I looked into it in the past and more or less came back with @Dan's conclusions regarding elective surgery.

I probably disagree with @Dan about the possibility of having better vision. After rejecting LASIK years ago, I am reconsidering it, since I really dislike progressives (which I find as giving me just OK vision at various distances, with nothing really good). I don't know know if LASIK+readers will be better, but I toying with the idea.

I think that if I will end up doing it, I would start with only one eye first.

My vision is important to me, which is why I always tell the optician I want top of the line lenses, coatings etc. But my last pair cost me a fortune I never thought I would pay for a pair of glasses, but I would be glad if the result would show. Other than getting compliments on the look of the glasses, I can't say I was happy. Not going back to that store.
I did it around 9 years ago two weeks before I got married.

Was the best decision ever, 20 seconds under laser in each eye & I now have 20/20 vision.

I paid top dollar & would highly recommend it to anyone

I still remember all the eye infections & dry eyes i used to get from lenses, it really is a no brainer for people that can't stand wearing glasses or lenses

The only side affect I had was dry eyes for the first 2-3 years that cleared up after (I always suffered from dry eyes)

Reviving this thread, as I'm seriously considering doing Lasik. Even with glasses my eyesight isn't as good as I wish it was, my glasses get sweaty and slip when I'm exercising, I hate feeling blind in middle of the night when my glasses are off or when they fog up from humid weather (or from a mask).

If anyone here has done it, who did you use in the NY/NJ area and would you recommend them?

+1

My vision is really bad -10.00 last time I went to the Dr I asked about LASIK and they said I wouldn't be eligible for it but I should be able to get PRK surgery.
Anyone here get PRK?

I had the surgery in 2007. My vision slowly faded away & I have been wearing glasses for the past 2-3 years. Would I do it again? Im not so sure, probably not!

With wearing a mask these days Lasik sounds more enticing ;)

Anyone else have the issue if glasses fogging up?

Tried contacts? Doesn't help in middle of the night, but everything else it does. It's a PITA sometimes when traveling (ie you forget the solution, case, or a spare pair) but usually ok (especially if you're still in america, you can get all that anywhere).

Yes. I used to wear them daily but haven't been able to tolerate them for the past few years.

I got that for a few months. Wore glasses, got better solution, and was good to go again. Doctor recommend not putting them on right away in the morning, so I davened in glasses then put contacts in at breakfast and that helped alot.
But now I'm back to wearing them from wake to sleep.

I hear, may be worth trying again, although I'm hesitant to invest in lenses again when I haven't had luck with them for a while.

People around here should know how to hack a cheap pair. I've never done it because I get vouchers from work, but something with price matching different sites to each other.
Some sites have big fees for shipping and the like and charge "less" for lenses and you price match that to a free shipping site or whatever.

For disposable lenses, I think Costco is the way to go.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Anyone else have the issue if glasses fogging up?
Since I can't get the masks that I have to fit I use it even though it leaks. The issue is that my glasses fog up.

A trick I learned a few years ago is to take regular dish soap and smear a very thin layer onto the glasses (both sides). Let it dry then buff it out with a cloth/tissue until it's perfectly clear. This will prevent any fogging up until the soap gets washed off.

Works extremely well. Try putting your glasses in the freezer with soap on only one lens for a few minutes and take it out to see the full effect.

Thought I'd share in case anyone finds it helpful.
