Summer vacations with Minyan
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:07:03 AM »
Hi all,

I'm looking to visit something further away from the east coast that would work well for a family with a minyan.

For example, last year we were in Vail, CO and had a big minyan at the Chabad house there.

We're travelling for about a week and a half during bein hazmanim.

I was thinking about Alaska, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon or Utah, but none of them have steady minyanim.

Any ideas? Our family has close to half a minyan, if it helps.

The more exotic the better. Although I think that what I consider exotic is pretty standard for you DDF'ers.

Thanks,
Bentzy

I like the Grand Canyon idea as well. How does it compare with Vail or Switzerland?

We should start a thread for people who want to team up for minyanim. Dan?

Shabbos minyan? Daily Shachris? 3 times daily? Please elaborate...

That's quite a group, if you're going to have 10 men over 13.

Las Vegas? There are obviously tons of attractions for the whole family, kosher food, and minyanim within city limits, but just north of Las Vegas I have done some of the most memorable hiking/mountain climbing of my life. You can google it yourself or check out this website http://hikinglasvegas.com/ Although you may need a lot of water and it may be very hot I did it in the winter... It isn't as exotic as Alaska or the other National Parks you listed but if you need a minyan 3x a day seems you'd be kinda limited and this could be a great option plus I am sure hotels are very cheap in the summer.

Newport, RI has daily minyanim during the summer at the oldest Shull in the United States. They have a letter sent to them by Goerge Washington.

Why do you have to be so mean?
If the OP writes a very specific type of vacation he wants why waste his time suggesting another. Like in your vacation thread I agreed with your first statement to meshuganer, being that you specifically said cities you were looking into and he said you want a totally different type of vacation than what you described. It is a bit annoying when twice in a day he posts comments as if he completely didn't read the OP's request. If he wants to suggest something different than what the OP is looking for just say so, but don't act like you are answering his question directly. Rather say you may also want to consider going on a vacation like this... Then go on to explain a vacation idea.
Anyway I'm not "so" mean I was nice here http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=16975.msg243738#msg243738

@Meshuganer it's nothing personal just my $0.02 on forum etiquette.

I'm with them on this, I think you need to learn to behave. I understand you need attention, but there are healthier (and less annoying) ways to get it.

Are you in general not good with constructive criticism? If that is the case I won't reply to any of your comments with any criticism again. I was not attacking you as a person but rather a concept of how you post, and suggested a more appeasing alternative, while not changing your unique and possibly helpful suggestions to fellow members.

It seems that the there might be a daily minyan at Flafstaff, AZ.

So here goes my list of possibilities:

Grand Canyon
Jackson Hole
Anckorage??

Is it way too hot to go to the grand canyon during the summer?  I would love to go!

The weather is pretty nice at the canyon in the summer due to elevation. Around 70-80 degrees.

Jackson Hole

Minyan etc and one of the nicest places you'll ever go

Thanks! I'm looking into this one now.

HNL

In the summer? also, without going off topic, how would I cope with the tznius issues there?
