United Elite Status with EQM's question

So was searching through the threads tiring to get more info on howw Dan and others say they maintain a 1K status as its officially not from CC miles, And I found this thread.

So will transferring  from CC do it unofficially?

Dose award travel count towards mm status? I assume no as they don't earn miles.

So my only option if I fly on miles is to make a new friend in J next time?

To update original post, it did not work.  Used the EQM to move to platinum and then earned up to 1k but it stayed as platinum.  Then earned the 100k flown miles to get 1k.

is platinum status worth more than 187k miles (I'm trying to decide between the presidential plus card and the club card)
