I received the same $195 AF, but I am definitely earning based on the current points system, namely 4x MR on restaurants and supermarkets.
Have same thing on my personal gold, Just wasn't confirmed as an official status. Don't use BGR enough to know which point structure actually is applied

When adding AU's, AMEX is giving me a problem to add SS and birthday. Can the card be used without giving AU's SS?

They will likely cancel the card without the info, you'd get a notice about it.
You can chat with them to add it.

What happens if there is a balance on it?

Is the 4x category bonus points up to $150k spend counted separately for every AU? That's what I was told and trying to confirm.

it seems as if the $100 airline incidental fee credit is per calendar year. does this mean that i can double dip for only 1 annual fee?

Yes, but you have to make sure the credit hits before the close of the year so you would want to give yourself a bit of a cushion.

Is the following scenario harmless, a really bad idea, or somewhere in between?

After maxing out 150k on shipping on the BGR, upgrade to plat (or downgrade to green), wait some time, then PC back to gold, to (hopefully) take advantage of a new 150k of bonus spend.

Any thoughts on how will amex take to that?
