What happens if I close my PRG card with a negative point balance?

Got hit with AF, called to downgrade to the green card and they offered me the senior card with a $35 annual fee, is that the best and cheapest way to keep my MR?

You can still keep your MR, just depends if you want/need to transfer them out.

My first ever successful retention bonus. I called saying the was thinking of closing the PRG to consolidate/ rearrange my cards. She talked about it being the premier points earner and how flexible the points were. She pointed out that with 30K spend over the year you get a 15K point bonus. I made appropriate ooh and ah and that is a nice benefit! She then offered me 25K points to keep the card open! I, of course, accepted.

I have several other Amex cards. But in 2013 I spent the 30K to get the 15K MR bonus, so that might have made this card more valuable to them.

I just got the 175 charge. How can I get around this? Should I close the card? Will they refund the fee? ( I have a lot of points on this card that I didnt use yt)
