"Regarding Taam China in Boston, the Hashgacha just posted the following statement:
Last night, I attended the meeting of the Brookline Board of Selectmen.
They were convinced beyond doubt that Taam China is of great importance to the Jewish community in Greater Boston & beyond. Also, the Brookline Police detectives confirmed that they had no indication or reason to believe that anyone else in the restaurant was involved in any way, or had any knowledge of any criminal activity. If anything, the opposite was true. Workers were victims of the crimes. They also confirmed that all recordings ended months ago, and that all devices were removed.
The lawyer representing the business confirmed that as of today, Andy Chung was removed from the corporate papers, as director & manager of the business. The papers now list the new owner. It was also mentioned that Andy has a court restraining order, and effectively, cannot approach within 100 yards of the store. The personal deplorable acts of this individual are not related to the business, which today employs a dozen hardworking innocent men & women, besides all the Mashgichim.
In view of this all, the Selectmen unanimously voted to allow the store to continue operating, while they are in a state of transition, seeking a new English speaking manager, and continuing the legal transferal of ownership. The sign Taam China was removed from the store, and soon will be replaced with a new name.
We are greatly saddened by the scandal at Taam China. It is unfortunate to see this happen in a Kosher restaurant that served our community for nearly 20 years. However, it is also important for the community to rest assured that the high Kashruth standards were never affected or compromised in any way, and BeEzrat Hashem, throughout the period of transition, Kashruth Supervision will remain in full effect. Please continue to patronize our only Chinese restaurant!!!
