Update: 6/16/15:
So I smed chase again and got the same response, denying to match to 140k. I then called Chase and got a very nice rep who tried to match it for me but was unsuccessful. It said in her system that they were only matching to 140k credit cards that were applied before April 30th. I applied May 14th. She then gave me 5k Ritz points as a courtesy and told me to try to call Ritz Rewards and ask them to replace my 2 free nights with the equivalent amount of points (probably not 140k). I did just that and the Ritz rep said she cannot do that. Blah blah.....
This really sucks <img src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/tapatalk-emoji/emoji35.png" />

Update: 3/23/15: Many recent reports of successful match to 140k offer via SM
Updated link: https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/ritz-carlton-card.aspx
Standard offer is for 2 free nights at Ritz Cat 1-4 which is not too bad either.

Update 2/9/15: DEAD
current offer  140k bonus points +$300 airline credit annual fee 395 not waived
link https://www.theritzcarltonrewardscard.com/offer140k

To get $300 airline credit call 1-855-896-2222
don't buy gift cards from Chase affiliated airlines (United, SW..)
As Chase may be able to see what you purchased

JetBlue seat upgrades and delta seat upgrades worked for me.
Airline GC are very YMMV as there are reports of chase asking for receipts.
(Seat upgrades are officially covered in the T & C.)

For the $300 incidentals can you do the same thing as barclay arrival (pggm)?

Refundable tickets typically don't work, but there has been sporadic success with tickets <$150 being done via SM on occasion depending what your claiming it is...

Two contradictory questions
1. What does the ritz downgrade to, any free Marriott card?
2. If i upgrade a Marriott to ritz with a small credit line, would the annual fee be charged, I know itís legally allowed to be, just wondering about any data points?

Trying to get more Marriott cards, in case Amex buys the card portfolio, I might pull off a sapphire reserve, similar to what happened with the Fairmont card.

Any way to extend certificates of their expiring ? Or convert the certificates into Marriott points? No rep wants to do it for me because I don't have the credit card anymore

What makes you think Amex is looking to buy the Marriott card? And why wouldn't the Ritz card also be bought?

Also if amex buys the Marriott card then your Marriott will turn into an amex. It will not convert to a sapphire reserve. The only reason they did that with fairmont was bec the program was discontinued. It was not bought out by another company.

chase and Amex are presumably fighting over spg/Marriott.
So one of them is probably going win the contract, unless they pull an aa move.

That is true regarding the reason for the fairmont card, but regarding this case, it will depend on how Amex-chaseís Negotiations go, regarding will the winner buy off the other banks card portfolio, or would the loser either continue having the card, just not available to new sign-ups, or would they all be converted to the chase line of cards.

Now to bump my original questions

Not if you cancel but you have 60 days to downgrade.

The Ritz can't be downgraded, only within the same family.
