Update: 6/16/15:
So I smed chase again and got the same response, denying to match to 140k. I then called Chase and got a very nice rep who tried to match it for me but was unsuccessful. It said in her system that they were only matching to 140k credit cards that were applied before April 30th. I applied May 14th. She then gave me 5k Ritz points as a courtesy and told me to try to call Ritz Rewards and ask them to replace my 2 free nights with the equivalent amount of points (probably not 140k). I did just that and the Ritz rep said she cannot do that. Blah blah.....
This really sucks <img src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/tapatalk-emoji/emoji35.png" />

Update: 3/23/15: Many recent reports of successful match to 140k offer via SM
Updated link: https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/ritz-carlton-card.aspx
Standard offer is for 2 free nights at Ritz Cat 1-4 which is not too bad either.

Update 2/9/15: DEAD
current offer  140k bonus points +$300 airline credit annual fee 395 not waived
link https://www.theritzcarltonrewardscard.com/offer140k

To get $300 airline credit call 1-855-896-2222
don't buy gift cards from Chase affiliated airlines (United, SW..)
As Chase may be able to see what you purchased

JetBlue seat upgrades and delta seat upgrades worked for me.
Airline GC are very YMMV as there are reports of chase asking for receipts.
(Seat upgrades are officially covered in the T & C.)

It's not an automatic trigger so it basically depends on your selling it to the rep, though I have to say I can't see it happening.

They probably see the same description that shows up online on your chase account,  then they ask you for what the charge is and if you can sell it than your good.
I don't think I would take the chance unless you anyways want to buy that.

But if they see the charge is for cotton candy why would they believe you?
It has to make sense to them.

I did JetBlue Refundable with seat upgrades. But it posted as one charge along with the ticket. I called Chase and they did a one time courtesy credit after I emailed in to them the split charges for proof.

Maybe I should have bought the seat upgrade a day later or so, so it would be a separate charge. Can you do this? If done after the fact, would it for sure also be refundable?

I still need to handle this for my wife's card, and she will be none too pleased to need to go through 5 phone calls and failed fax attempts to get this through. (Neither fax# chase gave to me would pick up, just kept ringing, so I ended up needing to print email to pdf and email to them, which would have been my preference to begin with.)

i just read Dan's post today about the marriot points. Are the Ritz points 'mergeable' with Marriott points?
