Update: 6/16/15:
So I smed chase again and got the same response, denying to match to 140k. I then called Chase and got a very nice rep who tried to match it for me but was unsuccessful. It said in her system that they were only matching to 140k credit cards that were applied before April 30th. I applied May 14th. She then gave me 5k Ritz points as a courtesy and told me to try to call Ritz Rewards and ask them to replace my 2 free nights with the equivalent amount of points (probably not 140k). I did just that and the Ritz rep said she cannot do that. Blah blah.....
This really sucks <img src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/tapatalk-emoji/emoji35.png" />

Update: 3/23/15: Many recent reports of successful match to 140k offer via SM
Updated link: https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/ritz-carlton-card.aspx
Standard offer is for 2 free nights at Ritz Cat 1-4 which is not too bad either.

Update 2/9/15: DEAD
current offer  140k bonus points +$300 airline credit annual fee 395 not waived
link https://www.theritzcarltonrewardscard.com/offer140k

To get $300 airline credit call 1-855-896-2222
don't buy gift cards from Chase affiliated airlines (United, SW..)
As Chase may be able to see what you purchased

JetBlue seat upgrades and delta seat upgrades worked for me.
Airline GC are very YMMV as there are reports of chase asking for receipts.
(Seat upgrades are officially covered in the T & C.)

I did JetBlue Refundable with seat upgrades. But it posted as one charge along with the ticket. I called Chase and they did a one time courtesy credit after I emailed in to them the split charges for proof.

Maybe I should have bought the seat upgrade a day later or so, so it would be a separate charge. Can you do this? If done after the fact, would it for sure also be refundable?

I still need to handle this for my wife's card, and she will be none too pleased to need to go through 5 phone calls and failed fax attempts to get this through. (Neither fax# chase gave to me would pick up, just kept ringing, so I ended up needing to print email to pdf and email to them, which would have been my preference to begin with.)

Do it separately, use different CC's for the airfare and the seats.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

not exactly sure how it works... i cant tell them a 200$ was an upgrade for my wife and i?
you do have to tell the truth. of course, otherwise, it is lying. so to spend $200 on duty free and say it was for an upgrade.... don't see the legality in that. sounds like stealing

they are the same points.

excellent -- a Ritz bonus and a Marriott bonus can all be merged together? (I'm used to Hyatt and SPG, so this would be new...)

it was not a question of whether or not it is ethical. if someone i asking to do something unhalachic or illegal, you have an obligation to tell him what is right and what is wrong.

i never said i was going to do it... in fact i never did amazon payments a"h because i was told its not permitted, as its not a real transaction. i am merely trying to figure out what they  recognize. but on the topic is getting AMEX to give you back $100 for your "incidental fee" of
an American Airlines gift card stealing? i think these things are very gray and everyone must ask and follow what they are told as i am sure there are a lot of opinions on this.

Officially the credits are for "incidentals." By your standards even though Amex credits go through automatically, it's just as illegal and unhalachic to buy those.

Did you read the quotation of his that I included in my post. It sounded exactly like that therefore my post. Of course, I could have misunderstood.

Well you (usually) have to follow a whole conversation in order to understand 'exactly' what the person meant.......

Again. Read what I first quoted; and from that part of the conversation you'll see why I wrote what I wrote. I'm not sure if you're referring to yourself ("well you have to follow a whole conversation") bc I read the conversation. But in any case; I just wanted to make sure we're all doing the right thing. If so, great.

Anybody with experience in getting upgrades with this card on paid RC reservations? How easy/hard is it? To how many levels up were you upgraded?
