Credit Questions
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:47:48 AM »
I'm pretty new to this whole credit card/points endeavor.  I was married once before and my ex husband really messed up my credit - BAD. And though it is his responsibility to clear my credit, it's been more than 10 years and he hasnt done anything, so chances are he aint gonna fix it now.  As such, I don't have very good credit, but would still like to get approved for a credit card. Can anyone please give me some tips as to how I can best achieve this goal?

Thanks,

DS

Someone I know had really bad credit based on a few settlements he made with chase about 4 years ago.  It messed up his creditreally bad.  I got him approved last week for the southwest rapid rewards plus card.  He got declined and I called reconsideration and explained why he had to settle and that he is much better off now.  I asked them to approve it with as low a credit line as possible so it wouldn't be such a big risk for them.  They agreed and approved it as a standard visa as opposed to Visa Signature which needs to be $5000 credit line or more.

I think if you explain to them why your credit is messed up and that it is so long ago, maybe they'll go for it.

Here

You can try to add yourself as a AU on someone elses card who does have good credit.  Or you can start over with applying for a store card like GAP or Macys and spending a little on it and paying every month...in a few months your credit should be getting better.

It's not about the quantity of your posts.  It's about the quality.

This was 10 years ago?

Are you sure the negative marks havent fallen off already?

Have you checked your credit?

Check your credit report and get back to us.

It could be like AJK said that the negative stuff fell off already.

I think it's still outstanding. I tried to apply for a Macy's CC and was declined, so the idea of my getting a store cc seem to be out of my reach. Or, I just don't know enough about this stuff.

Before you do anything you should get a copy of your credit report and see what's going on, what accounts are open, what's due etc.

No disrespect to any member here but you really need to post these questions at creditboards.com. They are the go to site for these types of problems and solutions.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half
