hi, 4 years ago, i was helping a friend of mine boost his thin credit report and score. i added him as an "Authorized User" on an Amex SPG Personal Card with a 26k credit line. this card never exceeded 20% of the CL but it so happen that last month the statement balance was 28k (whole story as to why this happened...)
he now has his own chase SP card for 3 years with an 11k credit limit.
last week he applied for the chase freedom and he got declined. in the letter he received it states the the following reasons.

1. High debt to income utilization
2. High debt to credit utilization
3. 1 of your credit cards exceeded the credit limit

i was always under the impression that adding as an AU can only help but would never harm since the AU is not liable?! by looking at his credit karma (fako) score, it plummeted 112 points over the last month..

he would like to call recon within the next 20 days or so and try to approve still under the current pull;
-can he make the case that it's just AU and therefore shouldn't effect his credit score/report in a negative way?
-would it help if he gets off as an AU and if so how soon does it reflect on his credit report? or would it help if the Amex SPG card is paid up (reporting date is the 20th of the month)?
-can he make the case that it's just AU and therefore shouldn't effect his credit score/report in a negative way?

With such limited credit history very slim chance he talks his way out of that unless your next statement will close within that timeframe and report 0 balance again

in which case they will most likely wanna run another credit report (hard hit) to make sure the card indeed turned to $0 balance

It helps in establishing a credit history, but if a card closes close to 100% utilization, especially with such a high dollar amount it obviously will hurt. Can't have the benefit without the risks.

Any reason why experian would decline an online dispute of an AU on an account that the AU has been removed on? The account is still open. This would be #5 of the last two years- a real difference maker in regard to chase 5/24

I'm sure this has been answered already but is there any way for an AU card to show up on a friend/family member's credit report without adding DOB or SSN?

I noticed wording for adding AU on Amex card regarding giving social and DOB:
The Additional Card Member's Social Security Number and Date of Birth are not required to submit this request. However, this information must be provided by you or the Additional Card Member within 60 days after the Card is issued, or the Additional Card will be canceled.
Is this new?? And is Amex actually enforcing this rule now?

So now I must wait for the AU card in the mail... Any way to use the card without actually having it yet? Even if it's not activated?? is there a way to figure out my expiration date?
