I tried to activate new AUs(like Moishe goldberg) and the phone system asks for SS# and tried  to make one up the phone system transferred me to a rep who then asked me questions like full SS# and then got a supervisor on the phone who asked for proof to be faxed in.

Wiki recommends not adding yourself as an AU with your own SSN because it'll be like a new account on your credit report - meaning, it'll double your open credit lines?

Ppl have had issues getting approved for new cards (mostly Barclay or chase) bc of too many credit cards... It's up for debate whether or not it actually negatively impacts your score. Either way it's been reported in this thread that calling the credit bureaus you can convince them to remove the au accounts from your credit score

Great example of why there is no need to add ss#'s. And why you should never make any up. (especially when there's no need to and you have nothing to gain by adding)

Meh....I don't open too many new cards, having more AMEX AUs is far more valuable to me.

And anyways it can be dealt with even if you do decide to open new cards... Different opinions as to how much of a PITA it is to remove them though

It did increase my credit line, while also reducing AAOA. My score didn't change much though

I assume it did since my score didn't change. Still, banks might question so many new accounts

Just go around to checking my experian fico 8 again. I added a bunch more amex cards. My AAOA went down from 6 years to 4.9 years, my total credit went from 250ish to 650ish.  The one other big change was one of my cc went from 70% usage (15K/23K) to less than 10% (1k/23k), and my Experian fico 8 went from 789 to 808.

Ah...the AAOA is the major risk. I was wondering why people don't just open all the AUs in their own name.

If I open up more than one AU in the same family member's name, does the same thing apply to them?

I believe so. It will affect whoever the person you adds AAOA.

But then deal with the issues when they ask for SSNs.
