I'd like to help somebody build their credit (no bad credit, pretty much same range as me, but somehow not being approved for cc's) by adding them as an AU.

Which of these cards would be the best option?

My oldest BofA card

New BofA card with largest credit limit

Amex charge card

Chase Freedom

Discover card

Thanks.

Update + recap: My brother had a pretty OK credit score, and a Capital One secured cc but kept on being declined for new cc's. I added him as an authorized user onto my PRG in June and in August he was approved for his own Chase Freedom, Amex Starwood and Discover card!

Added AU with ABSOLUTELY (if there is such a thing...) no credit on all my Amex accounts in November- he just got instant approval for his own Amex card!

I think this is the quickest way to build credit...

With Amex. My wife was approved for a platinum before having any other card or being an au.

Question. I authorized my wife as a user on my Chase Freedom to help her build credit but they didn't ask for her SS number. Does this mean that it won't go on her credit report? If so, is there any way I can rectify this? Thanks in advance for your help!

They don't need a SS# to add it to her CR.

Probably been asked many times, My friend (NOT my brother or family) who has BAD credit and is trying to re build  his credit asked me if I can add him as an Authorized user so he can apply for Credit cards, if I do add him as an Authorized user the card will be in my possession at all times, the question is will his bad credit effect me?.

What would be the best credit card to add him as an Authorized user, this is what I have:

Chase BA
Chase IHG
Chase Freedom
Chase Ink Plus
Chase United Business
Amex SPG Personal
Amex Buisness Gold rewards
Amex Premier Rewards
Barclays US Air
Barclays Arrivals
BOA Alaska

Thanks-

Not like it use to. You can plead your case to the Amex credit dept but the results lately are not good.

It wll not hurt your credit. Add him to as many old cards with A+++ credit history as possible. There is also a trick mentioned at the seminars that work also. I always wondered where that trick came from.  :)

IME, I tried getting my wife credit (she had NONE!) and I put her as an AU and it did NOT help at all. Chase even told me it wouldn't help her credit. In the end I had to sign her up for Capital One and only 8 months later she got approved for Amex cards, and 14 months for Chase cards. IME...

Adding her to one card with no credit will not help. It won't even generate a CR.
