Well, if all this is true, my credit just took a hit. I just opened 6 AU cards (3 accounts, 2 AU each). This means that my CR will show 6 new cards for about $40k.

When you add AU's with Amex you should do it so it helps your CR/score not hurt it. This is already past the point of TMI so this is my last post on the subject. No PM's!

Well, I created the AU to take advantage of SBS. I didn't think it would affect my credit. I see now I should've called in to avoid giving SSN.

Wouldn't have helped. (Unless you give them names of people that don't exist...)

Because they would've matched my name to the primary account?

I'm thinking of adding my wife as well, but now I'm worried about too many AU. Everything I've read before today has said that just adding AU can't hurt your credit score or report (assuming healthy spending on AU's part), but now I'm not so sure. Does what CM wrote only apply if you add yourself as AU, or does it apply to adding any AU?

How comfortable would DDFers be adding another (legit) AU in this situation? I have 3 AMEX cards, 2 are from over 2 years old, 1 was opened 2 months ago. My wife was an AU on the oldest card for over a year now, I want to add her on the other 2 cards.

My guess would be even adding yourself numerous times will get reported multiple times. I was just hopeful that maybe someone would say not like that but alas that doesn't seem to be the case.

If that's the case I think Dan should add that in to his main site post. He said its fine to do.

I know that having yourself added as an AU on a long standing card can help bump up your credit. What happens if you are added to card that was opened before you were born? My dad  has had a card since 1982 (I know I'm dating myself) and I want him to add me as an AU to boost my credit score. Won't it look weird if the length of credit history is longer than my age?

They'll probably stumble and get a good laugh when you call in and they say "thanks for being a cardmember from at least 1982" when they see you're only 30.

Adding someone else as an AU won't hurt your CR. Adding yourself multiple times may hurt your CR.
I try my best :-\

They don't backdate the AU to the age of the card any more.  alas.

So why are half the people in this thread trying to figure out how to add AUs without a SS#?

Just for the record, I personally added all of my AUs online with SS# and birthdays. ( Just wanted to make that clear in case the FBI is monitoring this thread... ;) )

How long does it really take for AMEX AU cards to arrive. I know AMEX says up to 2 weeks; does it really take that long? If so, I might be late to add some more AU for SBS. In the past, when does registration fill up? First day? Second day?

Edit: I signed up all the AU online (2 for myself 2 days ago, 1 for wife today); should I call them to expedite the delivery of them?
