The top of the line is K40. Then there is a big argument which is better V1 or escort.

I have a K40 in a TL and a V1 in my other car...Neither of them are perfect they just slow you down unnecessarily when you pass by banks etc that set them off.

escort.
which escort are you talking about? I have the valentine v1.8pop and I'm very happy with it, it takes a while to get used to all the falses, but now it's great. I have a friend who had the escort 9500ix with  the gps technology which I'd very cool but the range wasn't any better than the escort 8500 x50. So now he has the escort red line which is supposably one of the best, but it has the same many falses as the v1 (if you keep it on city mode) but since it doesn't have the arrows it leaves you "lost" of where the cop is. As far as the range the redline and v1 were so close you can't call the differance, sometimes it was the v1 and sometimes the redline but they were both within a split second. Just keep in mind that don't get a radar detector if you don't speed and think you could since you have one, it only HELPS reduce your chances.

I will not part from my v1, but I only got it because I drove around together with a friend who had it for a couple of months, so was used to the falses and how to "teitch" them up. Driving without my detector makes me feel naked. if you don't think you can handle the falses I would go with the escort 8500 x50 which you can get at pretty good prices these days. if you can handle it I would say go with the v1, but it does cost 400 new plus shipping.

electric doors and traffic lights set off either x or k band radar, so on rt9 you consantlly get radar, so the arrows on the v1 help you locate the source. Ka band is always a cop. On the nj tpk you get a couple of low blasts of either k band or x band, but since it stays low there is usually no need to slow down. On the parkway you get radar by most toll plazas and rest stops, otherwise it's usually pretty good, but keep in mind that they shoot laser which can only be blocked with a jammer. On the 17 I never drove but it should be reliable since there are no stores etc. If you get x band it's only used for cops in nj & Ohio (I think) otherwise it's a false.  driving to Baltimore you get x band from cops very often so it can get tricky, on the parkway I never got x from a cop but supposably they can shoot it, but generally they shoot k, ka and laser

It can be detected by the better radar detectors, but by radar the waves spread very wide so u can detect even if the cop is facing the other direction, but laser I'd a very skinny beam so you can only detect it if it's  shooting at you and then it's too late. You can get a jammer for about 600 and then the cop can't get a reading ( they are legal in I think 48 of 50 states)

Laser cannot be detected before the cop has a reading on you..the only way out is a diffuser.
Laser is monitored by the FDA so there is no regulation against interference as opposed to radar diffusers which are illegal..

The 9500ix has the same range of detection as the 8500 x50 which is not great, the extra features that it has are very cool but not needed. The gps technology locks in a false after passing by it three times so you don't have to hear a beep, and it can warn you if there is a speed or traffic camera ahead. So it will be quieter only if you drive the same route everyday. And the camera alerts aren't really needed on the east coast. I tried it together with the v1, redline, and 8500x50 and all it has Is cool features but not the greatest range. It also costs more than the v1 (500). Also the v1 has a separate detector for the back so from behind nothing compares.

Besides the price (redline 500, 8500x50 used about 130) the range of the redline is supposably the best on the market, it also has rounded detectors on the front so you get better side range (but you don't know it's from the side because there ate no arrows) the x50's range is not so great if your going 80 mph because it doesn't let you know far enough in advance. Redline anounces the type of radar it's picking up. Redline has better laser detection.
