I got one, and can't be happier. The technology of these detectors has improved to such an extent that they give you like 30 seconds before you pass a cap. Moreover, they will alert you even if you just pass a cop, and he isn't shooting a radar (e.g accident). It seems that they use both radars and lasars to perfect their system--quite impressive to say the lest. It's remarkable and highly recommended. My trip back from the mountains took 20 less minutes.

Has anyone on DDF ever gotten a speeding ticket using one of these?

I had a friend who had a $1500 system installed and got a ticket.

So I guess they aren't fool proof. I never speed like a mad man--always with the flow of traffic. 10-15 over, and I always slow down after the alert and every other car in the pact continues. After 40 seconds, we then bump into a cop--its incredible.

Correct. If the cop is sitting in the median at night and no radar, no laser, car is off, there is usually nothing that can pick it up.

If he has no radar and no laser hot does he catch you?

Yup. Not guessing, but he can time you.. I've seen it happen before.

Yes.  Either he can follow you for a few seconds,  and figure out from that how fast you're going. Or he can just guess,  and check off "estimated " on the ticket.

Got it. Anyway, I think the radar is really worth the $200. Even if it saves you from one ticket, you save the money, points, and the time in court. It's not perfect, but it has really high rate of finding the cops.

I don't speed like crazy, but if I go 73 on the pallisades, which is totally safe, I can be (have friends who have) pulled over. Makes driving much more peaceful. Just my 2 cents

I can tell you this one saved me multiple times on my recent road trip ORD-CLE and back.

Even gave me warnings about 1-2  minutes or a bit longer in advance

I have the escort passport x50 8500. Works like a charm for me

How can that be?
Never heard of such a thing.

Anyways radar detectors are in no way fool proof. Cops can pace, shoot laser, estimate and give you a ticket. No one should think they can get a detector and start to speed, if you speed anyways then maybe a detector will reduce the chances of a ticket

How does that make sense? How about the other way if you get one ticket because you though it would help you then it wasn't worth it ever to speed. That makes more sense.

Disagree. If someone specifically speeds because they have the radar detector, I agree. However, in my case, I speed minimally, and have never been pulled over, and don't plan on it.

For example, on the pallkisafes there is an unwritten rule that you won't be pulled over unless you are going over 70; I go 70-72 on pallisades. I was once in the car with a real tzaddik in my shul, and saw a radar detector in his car. I asked what's up because he was the last person that I expected to have one. He told me he got pulled over for going 67 on the pallisades.

There you have it. After that conversation, I got in the market for one.

Yup. Still, not as good as a radar detector. Not even close; I have used both

lol, I do a lot of driving. If waze is your method of detecting cops you'll be getting a lot of tickets!

I found waze to be accurate 1/10. The problem with waze is that it's being reported, if a cop got someone than the location changed and he can be waiting 400 yrds ahead, and gotcha! Very rarely was it useful for me. (But that can just be me...)

Waze is only useful when there are a couple wazers ahead of you !!
