VoIP vs. regular landline service
« on: February 05, 2010, 12:50:51 AM »
using voip is really great and very cheap, but I was wondering if there's a way I can make all the phones in my home connect to voip instead of regular service.
I know hooking up one phone is easy but I want my whole home hooked up...

has anyone tried this? or any info.
thanx

I had Vonage and now Cablevision Voip on all my home phones. Basically you connect a phone cord from the voip router to any one of your wall phone jacks and the rest of the jacks in your home are all "lit up" and you can plug a phone into any of them for service.

i used one called "phone power" for a while and was very happy with it.

The only snag was they claimed i didnt return the equipment and sent me to a collection agency. I just provided the dates and documentation (tracking number still in my email) and everything was fine.

i don't know if dif. ones work dif. but the dude by magic jack told me that the only way to have it for more than one phone is if you have a splitter. he said there's no such thing as plugging a wire from it to the phone jack and it all becomes "lit up"...

LOVE MAGIC JACK!

Check out this review:

Great job on the review Mordy!
I always consider getting a Magic Jack but between Google Voice+Gizmo 5 I think I'm covered well enough.

haha- fair enough, Dan. I've wanted to try that setup. I've already paid my $20 for the year so I'll see what happens when my MJ subscription runs out.

check out the Ooma review too... not for me, but interesting.
