No more free holds on UA award tickets?!

Hi,

Just did a search for "hold" and "FareLock" and came up with nothing, so please don't shoot me if this has been discussed before...

I tried holding an award ticket on United.com, and lo and behold! I can't seem to do it for free anymore.  This is true even if there are not enough miles in my account... I can only purchase FareLock for $$. 

Anybody else experiencing this?

u can click complete purchase by phone and it will put it on hold

Scroll down to where there's a link to "phone order page". Click on that link and you should have your record locator..

No longer lets you get past fare lock page unless you have the miles in your account. Thanks to all that posted this loophole in public. Use your brains guys

Any United rep on the phone will tell you to do it that way, not a biggie.
It's not like they will take it away due to abuse so why not help out another fellow DDF'er?

It all depends on the account. Some accounts they ask for fare lock, and some accounts, they put it on hold without any problems. couldn't figure out a pattern yet.

Well if people do figure this out, be smart, and don't post it. It's not like you're helping everyone out, you're just gonna ruin it for yourself and others

My wife's account allows me to put it on hold for 24 hours (before proceeding to traveler info, there is a link to hold instead of purchase)
My account does not have that option.

Both accounts have hundreds of thousands of miles. Any ideas why this is? I tried it numerous times in both accounts.

Just do phone order or cash.

This is my first time trying this so I'm asking for some help.

   I don't have enough miles in my account to actually book the award but I'm getting all the way until the page where it asks for my credit card info. On the bottom of the page it asks if I want to purchase the ticket. is the magical "complete purchase by phone" link on the next page?

Right above where you can put your credit card info, there a small link "phone order page" in middle of the paragraph. click on that.

Pull up the booking, it should say right on top of it.

Let me just warn you, though: that time is not always accurate. I've had times where they expired it a day earlier, or on the correct date but at 5PM instead of midnight. Caveat emptor.
