i saw this thing on cnn about ''Settlement results in free credit monitoring service from transunion'' does this really work?

it says on cnn that You may be eligible for these services if you had an open line of credit from January 1, 1987 until May 28, 2008. That means if you received a car loan, opened a department store credit card or took out a student loan in the past 21 years, you'll qualify. does that mean only a department store credit card or a normal credit card as well

A credit card is fine.
From the settlement website: "The Settlement Class is defined as: All consumers who had an open credit account or an open line of credit from a credit grantor located in the United States at any time during the period January 1, 1987 to May 28, 2008

just realize that you only get the "free credit monitoring service" when the case is settled which could be a few days, months , years or maybe even never so theres not much to get exited over until its actually settled.

www.myfico.com does it for $89 a year
