been on a prop plane route 4x (2 roundtrips) in one week.
my father travels the world quite a bit. and said he always wondered what happened to all the old turbo props they used to fly, till he started traveling to southern Chile and Argentina where he had a reunion with them
On some of those flights down there they ask you how much you weigh before you get on so they can evenly distribute it
I have seen it even on AA flights from LGA-CLE
Never seen that.
Not that they ask the weight
I think the statement, that pilots are new is not true.
Only really down south where there isn't so much civilization, you find that in every country.Actually I have seen that AC and UA use those planes alot for short flights in the east coast
-1, the pilots are much newer than on mainline planes and they are often worked beyond the legal limits. They also have less experience in case of emergency. See: Continental 3407 among many other case studies.
I think the key difference is whether or not the flight is operated by a Regional Airlines vs Major Airline. Major Airlines have stricter requirements before hiring a new pilot. Dan in your example the flight wasn't really continental, it as being operated by Colgan Air.
