Wow, feeling do bad for you. After packing up so much, making ready the kids etc what a disappointment. I hope you had some Sicha's from the rabbi handy that explained that what happened was the best thing for you ;)

Sort of ironic what a wrench the mechanical issue threw at you. Consider that you had so much going in your favor: 1) Traveling in J; 2) with elite status; 3) between two hub/focus cities for the relevant alliance; 4) with no to negligible weather issues and 5) on a route with 18 separate departures on the day in question. Just goes to show that air travel remains unpredictable, particularly when you throw checked bags and, more importantly, young children into the mix.

But that is really upsetting. What was in the bags already? I dont have any kids, but I assume you already know to pack what you absolutely need in carry-on...
