Extremely common injury when missing a step. Twist the ankle and the ligament yanks the bone causing a Jones or pseudo Jones fracture. I had it twice, DW once, DD once, etc

Depends lol. If no surgery - she may be in a walking boot for 6 weeks. Though sometimes they do a hard cast, but I think a walking boot is overwhelmingly the most common treatment.

I broke it too a few years back. Doctor said if you can handle the pain you don't need a cast, so I didn't (the break has support from the rest of the foot and heals automatically, he said). I don't recall exactly how long it took but it wasn't very long at all - used crutches for under a week,

keep in mind age matters in recovery, your wife is (probably) older then Euclid so it may be longer then 6 weeks.

You may be right. However, once a bone breaks, it is easiest for it to break on the same line when any pressure is applied, healed properly or no.
