Toronto isn't pothole-free.
Around here they cut the streets up every Monday and Thursday. Every seam and little crack turns into a pothole, in this weather.

Source? That was my guess (or they use different salt) but I want to know if that's actually true. Would sound crazy to me, because the amount it costs NYC in repairs + traffic delays

I think a major cause of potholes is when it freezes and thaws and freezes and thaws and...
I don't think you have nearly as much back and forth there as we have here, IINM for the most part it gets cold and stays cold.

Both points are true, but the water needs all those cracks and seams to get in to.

I think that, plus the actual material that the road is made of.
Certain streets have smooth, awesome rides, and others are 5ft long and 14" deep ditches. Asphalt vs. concrete vs. type of black-top.

and, pebbles flying everywhere..
Literally cars are zig-zagging left and right and over the double-yellow line just to avoid a 6 in-a-row onslaught.
