London Olympics 2012
« on: June 26, 2012, 09:59:02 AM »
Hey everyone,

I attended dan's seminar yesterday and it was awesome!

I have a question related to that: Dan mentioned that you could starwood points to book a hotel during london olympics as there is no blackout dates. I actually checked availability from August 4th to August 7th and they have nothing available.

Any suggestion or tricks to book a hotel with any type of points?

Thanks for your help and thanks again dan for this great seminar!

Which hotel?

If its actually sold out then youre out of luck.

No blackout dates means, if theyre selling a room, no matter the price, you can use points?

Sheraton Heathrow is not an option (really far from the city and expensive to get downtown).

It says please contact us but when I called them they say that the hotel is fully booked.

Gotcha.

Interesting. The other ones which aren't available for cash show all unavailable.
Here it shows for sale and "contact us" for free (points nights).

Did you call SPG or the hotel directly? Ive never seen that before...

Thanks!

It's almost an hour away so it's not the best option.

I wanted to give you an update: I have been able to book a room at the park lane hotel for 16000 points a night. This is definitely a great deal. Thanks again for all the great recommendations.

Anything you would recommend to get an upgrade?

I am a gold member.

Also, my roomate is a platinum member but he won't be travelling with me.

Thanks for your help!

Put it under his name and add yourself as a second guest.

If youre roomies, should have a problem transferring the points over.

Say he's coming in on the next flight. Lots of people do it, never a problem.

If youre worried, initiate a chat on spg.com and ask them straight out if the added guest can check in. Theyll say yes. Print it out and bring it with you.

Upgrades are subject to availability and Im sure itll be packed but the other bennies are also good.

So it's probably not worth it anyway right?

Gold gets late checkout and can choose free internet as a welcome amenity.

Plat will get you brekkie as well and a suite if available.
