debit vs. credit
« on: February 10, 2010, 05:19:21 PM »
Is there any reason to get the chase continental credit card over the debit regarding rewards. And is there any reason period not to do the debit assuming you have the money in a chase account already. Thanks.

Debit card=No consumer protections like a credit card has for a stolen card, stolen purchase, extended warranty, return protection, etc.
Plus if you miscalculate you pay overdraft fees.
And you don't earn interest on the ~50 extra days you have to pay.

Any other reasons debit cards stink?

The $25 card only gives 1 mile for every 2 dollars spent.

The biggest reason for me is dispute resolution. Back in the day when I used debit cards, I once had to open a dispute. They made me come down to the branch and fill out a form. They asked allot of questions. It was one big hassle. With CC's you just call them up and file, they automatically give you a temporary credit, and with AMEX, they seem to always be on your side. (the most difficult is Mastercard).

I win AMEX disputes 99% of the time.  They're incredible and it can all be done online.
Chase disputes can also be done online although they're a bit tougher.

Good luck ever winning a dispute on a debit card.
