Avios vacation from TLV
« on: June 27, 2012, 03:26:10 PM »
I'm looking for a destination (pref. Europe) for summer vacation from Israel. No availability showing on BA to use the loads of Avios I have. Any chance they'll open up closer to the dates? (middle August)

Be prepared to pay lots of fuel surcharges. Try to transfer your Avios to Iberia, as their surcharges are less.

Ironic you write this b/c I spend a bunch of time this morning trying all their different routes.
To/from Madrid looks like a good deal (25k, and I think the fees are low), but there was almost no availability. You may have better luck if you fly to Amman first, and from there they have a lot more choices to Europe. See here for more details.

Either way, let me know what you find. I may be interested in doing the same thing.

Also, trips from israel are usually quite cheap if you book a package of flight + hotel. You can often find deals for under $400 per person. Here is a website with some deals I was just reading. http://travel.groupon.co.il/

Also, http://www.daka90.co.il/ is worth looking at. Often, its the cheapest the night before the trip.

I think you need to be part of Iberia Plus for at least 3 months - http://www.dansdeals.com/index.php?s=iberia - which I'm not (only signed up once I saw this post).
When I tried to check for availability - even just TLV to LHR, it showed miles + $40

$40 RT? I suspect LHR-TLV might be much more, please CMIIW.

Saw an ad in Israel HaYom for a few day trip to Cyprus including hotel + flight for a few hundred $. I think it's the best route.

I don't have too much experience with this, you are probably right.

Before you book anything, open a few papers and you'll see dozens of ads. You can also chk the website I mentioned below and see what options they have.

Stay far away from those packages. unless you are 100% sure of the inclusions.

 I've only heard horror experiences

Such as?
I'm concerned also, but as long as it covers the flight and hotel stay, I'm fine with it.
Do they tack on fees?
