But we flew in for 30 hours from NY and i can say it was an amazing site to meditate on,
Standing 4 hours in middle of the night just taking in on whats happening just a few miles away in plain site
Also got to get up on  mauna kea

There are currently fires on Big Island and Oahu as well, although not as widespread/devastating as the ones on Maui.
(Note that summer is wildfire season in Hawaii, and brush fires are normal- the difference this year is Hurricane Dora which caused high winds that spread the fires out of control).

Hi, I'm landing in Kona staying in volcano and driving back to Kona. I'm seeing a lot of warnings about car break-ins. Is it safe to stop at Green sand and Black Sand beaches with all our luggage in the trunk. We could take all our valuables with us to the beaches so it will be 3 suitcases of clothing, food, and other random stuff. I have the same question on the way back. I would like to do the Hamakua & Waimea sights in the revealed travel guide.

Is it safe to stop at Green sand and Black Sand beaches with all our luggage in the trunk. We could take all our valuables with us to the beaches so it will be 3 suitcases of clothing, food, and other random stuff. I have the same question on the way back. Both of those beaches are popular enough where I wouldn't be worried about leaving things in the trunk, especially if it's a normal car and you cannot see what's in the trunk from outside the car. If it is a hatchback, SUV or minivan I would be more careful. Also, the car park is close enough to the beach where you can almost see your car all the time. If you go to a more secluded waterfall where your parking on the side of the road with just a couple other cars, that is a prime location for break-ins. However, don't take my word for it in case you do get broken in to.

As to the green sand beach, unless something has recently changed, the only way to get there from the parking area is to walk or pay one of the locals to shuttle you there in one of their dilapidated trucks.  I would say the parking area by the green sand beach is generally safe, as the locals are right there. It's not your typical beach parking area. 

As to the black sand beach, which particular one are you referring to - Punaluʻu?  We've never personally had any issues but you do need to exercise common sense and caution.
