Umm, $36 p/p for dinner?
http://www.jewishhanoi.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/2667481/jewish/Kosher-Prepared-foods.htm

Looks like I'll be schlepping more food than I bargained for.

At least shabbat is 'free'.

And...?
Would you recommend any changes? I asked about the Cuc Phuong National Park, but there isn't enough time.
If I can do the caves or Sapa, which would you pick?
Where did you stay in Sapa?

Sapa, I love nature.

Does this classify as an over the water villa?
http://www.ihg.com/intercontinental/hotels/gb/en/hanoi/hanhb/hoteldetail

Pretty looking hotel w/ rates at around 100 per night.

Where did you stay?

I booked the tour at Hanoi Backpackers, we stayed in a homestead with  a dozen backpackers, forgot the name, the tours to sapa are usually package deals and cheap.

Beautiful!
Pretty affordable at 275.
The other cave costs around 4k, so I wonder what it includes to make it cost so much more.

@Drago --

Did you ever end up planning/taking a trip here?

Am thinking of perhaps doing a couple days in PVG/PEK/ICN/NRT (not sure which yet) and the balance in Vietnam.

I'm dying to do some caving while there...

In a few months.
Def look into the caving. I posted some links down thread, and can ask a relative who did it last year if you need.

What's your planned itin as of now?
A quieter bay close to Halong Bay, 2 days, 1 night in boat.
Sapa: 2 nights in train, 2 nights there.
Hoi An: Few nights including a shabbos
Hanoi: First shabbos, our base btw travels

All subject to chg of course.

Keep in mind I'm going w/ kids, so we're somewhat limited w/ the types of activities.
And I don't think the the suites in the train are on the same level as SQ suites, but on the plus side, they're a bit cheaper. :)

Trying to decide between Vietnam and PEK/NRT/PVG.
From what I've read, it's a much diff experience.
Much more third-wordly than places like Thailand, let alone your other options. And more so the north than the south.
Probably depends on what you're looking to do.

uhh, yea, I'll spend 25k IHG points at this place per night...
Might be one of their top values. Rates are over 350 per night, and the place is new.

Beautiful. And a sick value. Love the patio. If only it had a private pool.

Reminds me of Conrad Koh Samui, just not as nice. CKS was an unbelievable value at 35K HH/night + $0.00. Definitely the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at.

+1,000, though I don't have that broad a repertoire to compare it to.
Watch this inspiring video.
