Reading a
post from
@Jellybelly in another thread in which he recounts the famous story of the Netziv and how he almost became a shoemaker, I was reminded of a funny twist on the story.
Rav Avrohom Levi Bresler zt"l, a Westgate resident, was
one of the first victims of COVID in Lakewood, having passed away last year at the age of 58. He wrote a sefer called Nachlas Levi, and he concludes the sefer with a funny quip.
Here's a loose translation:
There's a famous story with the Netziv... (he writes the story, and then continues:) I once pondered that perhaps nowadays a mechaber of seforim will go up to Shomayim and they'll show him a room full of beautiful shoes, and they'll say, "Look what you could've made!"
This line was repeated to Rav Avrohom Yehoshuah Soloveitchik, and he said it in his Chumash Shiur.
I hope that my sefer is indeed useful!
