Can someone who has stayed at this hotel tell me if this is a decent hote to stay at for Shabbat with 2 adults and 2 kids?

FYI, a friend of mine recently spent a weekend (incl. Shabbos) at the Andaz 5th Ave. and it's really not a Shabbos-friendly hotel:

1. The stairwells all have motion-sensors 24/7.
2. There's an AC sensor (can be disabled).
3. The rooms' light switches are sensor based, so walking by too closely can turn on/off some lights.
4. Opening the room door turns on some lights.
5. Some lights turn off after some time if no motion is detected.

These were the experiences reported to me, anyone have a good experience there on Shabbos?

Ah, I was only speaking to the hotel itself, not the hotel on Shabbas. I should have clarified.

What about the bed rooms? Do they have 2 beds or just 1?

What about the 48 Lex Hyatt? Is that more shabbas friendly?

I'm sure they have both.

I don't remember the 48 Lex having all those automatic features IIRC.

This may be the wrong place to ask this, but I couldn't find any info on which hotels in NYC are best using SPG/other CC points. Any suggestions?

Nicest, or cheapest? Does it have to be Manhattan? What about Brooklyn? Airports? 5-10 minute drive in NJ?

Brooklyn would work, looking for nice and I have the points so I don't mind spending them.

The Chatwal is probably the nicest, with The Helmsley and some of the other cat 5/6s as runner ups (never stayed at any of those though), but as this thread points out, with many higher end SPGs you're better off selling your points to a broker and paying cash for these.

Chatwal was nice but can't imagine spending the points on it. Room was ok but small. Real highlight was the bathroom. Unbelievable rain shower. And the soap and shampoo is awesome. Looked into buying the body wash, it was 33 for 3 hotel size bottles
